Global challenges: deadlock and division

Over the coming years, Geneva will set the terms on carbon, data, trade, subsidies and supply chains that define market access and governance for a generation. Organisations absent from those rooms will inherit rules they had no part in shaping.

The multilateral system is fragmenting and polarising, and the channels for dialogue are closing.

The Platform

An independent bridge, built in Switzerland

GCMD is an independent Swiss non-profit that makes credible voices understood where global rules are shaped, and keeps East and West talking. It convenes business, government, academia and civil society on neutral ground, in a spirit of win-win cooperation rather than zero-sum confrontation. Support for the United Nations comes first.

The Problem

Why credible voices still go unheard

Enterprises, associations, foundations and institutions are engaging with Geneva more than ever. Three structural factors still blunt the impact of that effort.

The governance asymmetry

Unilateral measures, carbon border mechanisms, export controls and investment screening constrain emerging economies, with no institutional channel to raise concerns constructively.

The credibility gap

Contributions that arrive without a neutral, locally established intermediary are read through a politicised lens. Even rigorous research struggles when no trusted Geneva partner stands behind it.
